ATD Ireland’s work on socio-economic discrimination

What is socio- economic discrimination? ATD Ireland are part of an alliance called #addthe10th.  The purpose of this group is to have socio- economic status recognized as the tenth ground of discrimination in Irish equality legislation, namely the Equal Status Act and the Employment Equality Act.  The add the tenth alliance is made up of All Together in Dignity Ireland, Association for Higher Education, Access and Disability, Community Action Network, Free Legal Advice Centres, European Anti- Poverty Network, Independent Living Movement Ireland and Irish National Organisation of the Unemployed.  There are currently nine grounds of discrimination set out in equality legislation…

Lancement de l’Exposition: La discrimination socio-économique sous le prisme de la créativité

ATD a tenu une exposition artistique à l’EPIC Centre, Customs House Quay à Dublin du 27 au 31 octobre.  Cette exposition présentait le travail réalisé sur le livre Lookdown Liberties et sur les pièces d’argile produites lors d’ateliers artistiques. Elle a également créé une opportunité de mettre en avant la campagne pour reconnaître le statut socio-économique comme le dixième critère de discrimination dans le Irish Equal Status Act. Exhibition Launch Event: Socio- Economic Discrimination Through the Creative Lens

UN Day for the Eradication of Poverty

Sunday 17 October, the Irish event marking the UN Day for the Eradication of Poverty was held in Custom’s House Quay in Dublin.  The theme for this year’s event ‘Its Time to Change and End Persistent Poverty’ was inspired by condensing the international theme “Building Forward Together: Ending Persistent Poverty, Respecting all People and our Planet” and focusing on its core message - which we interpreted as - the radical need for ‘change’, now more so than ever.  We visualised this as a butterfly emerging from a cocoon.  The concept of the butterfly emerging from its cocoon stemmed from the idea…

Event Launch: Educational resource and workshop on Hidden Dimensions of Poverty

All Together in Dignity Fourth World (ATD Fourth World) is an international human-rights movement that works through grass-roots projects in partnership with people living in poverty. ATD’s Summer Art Workshops

Beginning on the 12th July ATD, with the help of artist Katherine Sankey, has been holding a series of art workshops in Mountjoy Square Park which are designed to create clay sculptures as a means to reflect the issue of socio-economic discrimination. These workshops aim to bring to the fore the creative potential of those with direct experience of living in poverty, allowing them to depict what socio-economic discrimination means to them.
