Global Theme — “Acting together to achieve social and environmental justice for all ” The theme for the Day this year addresses the challenge of achieving social and environmental justice for all. The growing recognition of the multi-dimensionality of poverty means that these two issues are inseparably intertwined, and that social justice cannot be fully realized without aggressively rectifying environmental injustices at the same time. We are pleased to announce that Donald Lee was named president of the International Movement ATD Fourth World at its last annual general assembly. Born in Malaysia and migrating to Australia, Donald is an economist. He worked at the UN for many years, first in Bangkok, then in New York at the Division for Sustainable Development and at the Department of Economic and Social Affairs. From the start he helped our New York team to mark October 17 within the UN. The team and friends of ATD Ireland are delighted to welcome 3 new team members who have just arrived in Ireland. Dann Kenningham from Yorkshire and London Town, who arrives with his family, is a member of the International Volunteer Corps of ATD Fourth World and has worked previously with ATD in the Philippines, Belgium, France and the UK. Stewart and Mary McMurchie from Scotland, and also members of the International Volunteers Corps, have worked with ATD in France, Canada and the UK. We wish them all the best with their new mission in Ireland and we greatly value their many years of experience…
