Participate 2015 and Dóchas will run an advocacy workshop on the active role of people living in poverty in monitoring and accountability of the new Sustainable Development Framework.
In September 2015, the member states of the United Nations are set to agree a new global agreement on how to tackle the world’s most pressing problems, including poverty, inequality and environmental destruction.
This new “Sustainable Development Framework” will have binding consequences for all UN member states, and will therefore also impact on Ireland’s own development in a number of policy areas, such as energy, transport, agriculture and environment.
The Participate 2015 and Dóchas workshop will present research findings from the Participate Initiative, which focuses on the experiences of marginalised people and those living in greatest poverty. The initiative brings together participatory research programmes in 29 countries. This research connects the unfiltered voices of those most affected by poverty and exclusion with global decision-making processes, and seeks to inform and influence the post-2015 debate
This workshop seeks to bring together key actors, showcase findings from participatory research, pose key questions, identify learning’s and build support for advocacy during the final phase of negotiating a new global agreement.
Focusing in on the Irish context, participants will also explore what participatory monitoring could/should look like in practice and what it would require. Given the universality of the SDG’s this multi-stakeholder conversation is extremely relevant.
