Join ATD events for Human Rights Day!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.atdireland.ie\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/10th.gif\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1251\" src=\"http:\/\/www.atdireland.ie\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/10th.gif\" alt=\"10th\" width=\"1443\" height=\"490\" \/><\/a>ATD is organising a number of different events to mark Human Rights Day 2015, which falls on 10<sup>th<\/sup> December.<\/p>\n<p>In the lead-up to Human Rights Day, ATD will welcome <strong>two special international guests<\/strong> to Ireland, who will be involved in the organisation\u2019s events between 7<sup>th<\/sup> and 9<sup>th<\/sup> December: : <a href=\"http:\/\/atd-fourthworld.org\/janet-nelson-world-citizen-is-new\/\" target=\"_blank\">Janet Nelson<\/a> \u2013 who, after many positions within UNICEF, recently became Vice-President of ATD International; and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.atd-quartmonde.fr\/brunotardieu\/\" target=\"_blank\">Bruno Tardieu<\/a>, a member of ATD International Volunteer Corps, who has worked in the USA and France, and is the author of a new book about ATD.<\/p>\n<p>To kickstart ATD Ireland\u2019s programme of events for Human Rights Day 2015, there will be a special informal meeting between Janet Nelson and Bruno Tardieu on Monday, 7<sup>th<\/sup> December 2015, at 5pm at ATD\u2019s office, 26 Mountjoy Square East, Dublin 1.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.atdireland.ie\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/hdk2.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1247\" src=\"http:\/\/www.atdireland.ie\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/hdk2.jpg\" alt=\"hdk2\" width=\"622\" height=\"330\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.atdireland.ie\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/hdk2.jpg 622w, https:\/\/www.atdireland.ie\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/hdk2-300x159.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 622px) 100vw, 622px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Main event of the programme will be the launch of the international Handbook &#8220;Making Rights Work&#8221; at which Emily Logan, Chief Commissioner of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ihrec.ie\" target=\"_blank\">Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission<\/a>, will deliver a guest address.<\/p>\n<p>In partnership with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.miseancara.ie\/\" target=\"_blank\">Misean Cara <\/a>and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ozanamhouse.ie\">SVP Ozanan House<\/a>, ATD will host the Irish launch of a new handbook, \u2018<strong>Making Rights Work for People Living in Extreme Poverty<\/strong>\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>The handbook is focused on the implementation of the UN guiding principles on extreme poverty and human rights, and was launched internationally in Geneva in September (you can read more about the Geneva launch <a href=\"http:\/\/atd-fourthworld.org\/humanrightshandbooktoberelease\/\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>).\u00a0 It is intended as \u201ca practical tool for social workers, policymakers, civil servants, law enforcement officials, teachers, healthcare providers and human rights advocates working at the local level to ensure that public policies reach the poorest members of society and respect and uphold all their rights\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Irish launch of the handbook will take place at Ozanam House, 53 Mountjoy Square West, Dublin 1 from 11am to 1pm on Tuesday, 8<sup>th<\/sup> December.<\/strong>\u00a0 Emily Logan will deliver a guest address at the event, alongside:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Heydi Foster-Breslin \u2013 CEO in Misean Cara and Human Rights and Equality Commissioner<\/li>\n<li>Janet Nelson \u2013 Vice-President of ATD International<\/li>\n<li>John Mark McCafferty \u2013 Head of Social Justice and Policy \u2013 SVP<\/li>\n<li>Cecilia Forrestal \u2013 Director, Community Action Network<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>To register to attend this event, click <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eventbrite.ie\/e\/make-human-rights-work-launch-of-an-international-handbook-tickets-19740547509\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.atdireland.ie\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Lwtf.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1248\" src=\"http:\/\/www.atdireland.ie\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Lwtf.jpg\" alt=\"Lwtf\" width=\"999\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.atdireland.ie\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Lwtf.jpg 999w, https:\/\/www.atdireland.ie\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Lwtf-300x120.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 999px) 100vw, 999px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Later, on the eve of Human Rights Day 2015, ATD is inviting citizens of Dublin to join them for a <strong>symbolic \u2018Long Walk to Freedom\u2019<\/strong> with lights and LED candles.<\/p>\n<p>The walk will start at 5pm on Wednesday, 9<sup>th<\/sup> December, at the <strong>\u2018Universal Links on Human Rights\u2019<\/strong> (on the traffic island at the junction of Amiens Street and Memorial Road, close to Bus\u00e1ras and the Customs House in Dublin 1).\u00a0 The walk will proceed to the F<strong>amine memorial statues<\/strong> on the north quays, and will end at the <strong>Human Rights and Poverty Stone.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The walk will #LightTheWay on the<strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.atdireland.ie\/wp\/campaign\/\">17 #GlobalGoals of the #2030Agenda<\/a>.<\/strong> The 15 years journey to achieve the Goals will be a long journey to free all human beings from the fear of Poverty! For all of us they will be a long journey to freedom, as noboby is is free until we are all free! The #GlobalGoals are for sure part of the legacy of Nelson Mandela!
