These reviews take place in addition to the review processes under specific treaties, and are therefore considered \u201cuniversal\u201d, as they apply to the full range of human rights obligations.<\/p>\n<p><strong>In April next year, it is Ireland\u2019s turn to be reviewed.\u00a0 <\/strong>These <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rightsnow.ie\/\">\u201cUniversal Periodic Reviews\u201d (UPR)<\/a> take place every four years and are meant as a stock take of every aspect of a country&#8217;s human rights record. The review covers all types of rights and are undertaken by other UN member states, in a system known as<strong> peer review<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ohchr.org\/EN\/HRBodies\/UPR\/Pages\/IESession12.aspx\">The last time Ireland was reviewed under this Peer Review mechanism was in 2011<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The <strong>\u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.rightsnow.ie\/\">Rights Now<\/a>\u201d<\/strong> campaign is highlighting the importance of the UPR process and encouraging as many people and organisations as possible to get involved in the process.<\/p>\n<p>There is a public consultation meeting on Thursday the 30th July from 11.00 am to 1.00pm, at the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission, 16-22 Green Street, Dublin 7.<\/p>\n<p>You can also fill in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rightsnow.ie\/go\/home\/upr_online_form\">UPR on-line form<\/a>!<\/p>\n<p>Specific written submissions should be returned to<a href=\"mailto:%20rightsnow@iccl.ie\"> rightsnow@iccl.ie<\/a> by Friday 14 August.
