As we begin 2025 we would like to wish you all a happy, healthy and peaceful new year.\u00a0 We wish to share our deep gratitude with all those involved in our work in 2024 and all those who supported us in any way.\u00a0 We made some very precious memories in 2024.\u00a0 However we also acknowledge that this was a year where many of our members struggled deeply, and continue to do so.\u00a0 It is our main priority to remain connected to families living in persistent poverty during these times.\u00a0 We are proud of our collective achievements in 2024 and how we are progressing on our strategic goals.\u00a0 Moreover, we are mindful of where we need to place more focus moving forward.\u00a0 Therefore, it is a timely moment to take stock of our actions through the lens of our strategic goals and provide an insight into our plans for 2025.\u00a0 We hope the below showcases the interconnected nature of our work from diverse modes of inclusion, advocacy and representation, etc.\u00a0 Highlights of 2024 include our Creative Pathways to Participation, meeting people through gatherings and open house days and fostering partnership through our advocacy work on socio- economic discrimination.\u00a0 Our projects aim to be diverse in nature, involving our ATD Ireland Community, and members of other groups and partners.\u00a0

One area where we are very mindful of our need to invest more energy and creativity is in finding ways to meet new people living in poverty. Some of the highlights of 2024 are the moments we spent alongside families, especially our home visits<\/span> and<\/span> outings, particularly during the summer.<\/span> \u00a0<\/span>We spent time going on nature and cultural outings this year. \u00a0We hope to continue, and make more regular, this action in 2025. \u00a0Watch here<\/a><\/strong><\/span> some short, fun clips from our days out.<\/span>\u00a0 However, life has continued to <\/span>remain<\/span> very difficult<\/span> for those facing persistent poverty.\u00a0 To <\/span>remain<\/span> present in people\u2019s lives and to have our actions reflective of the reality of what our members are experiencing will be a core aim moving forward.<\/span> \u00a0These moments where we have the privilege to learn from people living in poverty are key<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>

In 2025 we plan to experiment with new ideas to be attentive and proactive in outreach. \u00a0For instance, through spending more time in the community, especially in places where we can meet new people through some activities. \u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Our <\/span>Community Activists<\/span><\/b> have done a massive amount of work across 2024, especially in public presentation both local and international. Many of our projects and activities are designed, developed, carried out and promoted with our activist group. We would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank them all.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

It will be important to continually take stock with our community activists in 2025 on the achievements and challenges of our continued public representation.\u00a0 ATD Ireland are committed to carrying out, and planning, our public facing work in partnership with Community Activists. \u00a0Community Activists always have the freedom to take part in this work, and step back from it as they see fit and the team will encourage them to take these decisions mindfully, without any judgement.\u00a0 Creating a group dynamic, based on trust and peer support is so important. Encouraging hope and positivity is essential, yet recognising burnout and demotivation in the face of political inaction is vital. We are also attentive to supporting our activist group in training and self-development. \u00a0We will continue to take moments to reflect together on both challenges and achievements of this work in 2025.

We always value the contributions of our community activists, recognising the context of where each person is coming from. \u00a0The efforts made are often staggering, taking time to be on a zoom meeting numerous times from a hospital bed, finding strength to show up at an event while struggling with an important family issue, for example.\u00a0 It is our duty to ensure these contributions are taken seriously. \u00a0The wellbeing of all Community Activists will always remain a top priority for us all in the ATD Ireland community.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Working through a series of one to one interviews with our Community Activists focusing on building up the confidence to speak out,\u00a0in link with Critical Social Policy, has led us into an important collective reflection on the core values of ATD Ireland. \u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

We hope this work will be published in 2025 after further involvement by our members leading up to our AGM in May\u00a0 This will support us in planning our actions in 2025 and beyond, through understanding what is meaningful to Activists, which of our actions resonate most and give them strength.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

We have managed to re- ignite some ties with families we have lost contact with and meet new people. \u00a0The Creative Pathways to Participation<\/a><\/strong><\/span> project (funded by Coalition 2030) gave us the opportunity to reach out to families not often involved in our public work and created new partnerships.\u00a0 This project received international recognition and received a Creative Lives Award.\u00a0 Read here<\/strong><\/span><\/a> a reflection on Creative Pathways and the award by Community Activist Paul.\u00a0

\u201cA lot of the time our voices were not being represented, but rather opinionatedon. Whereas now (in Creative Pathways to Participation), it\u2019s our expression. We continued our Tuesday open house days in 2024.\u00a0 This is an important open space for our members to drop in and meet up.\u00a0 It is always a moment where the team are attentive and welcoming. It is an important space for our volunteers, interns and friends to be together in a non-judgmental environment. Lots of our project ideas are discussed and developed together during this time. Creative workshops, cooking, singing are central to the warm inclusive vibe we aim to create. The weekly opening house is important to our outreach work and new people are always very welcome.\u00a0 Our open house days have dipped and peaked at different times throughout the year- we are aware that this is reflective of the personal contexts of people’s lives.\u00a0 We will work to ensure this remains a safe space and an environment of mindful conversations, and at times, healthy debate.

As we begin 2025, we are just finalising the Leave No One Behind Series 4<\/a><\/strong><\/span> report and film.\u00a0 This series enabled us to build contacts with several new organisations across Ireland.\u00a0 It has been especially important in the current societal context of increasingly divisive narratives to reach out to diverse groups and bring them together and recognise our shared experiences.\u00a0 We hope to put this into practice as we spend time promoting the outputs of the project this year.\u00a0 We hope to continue to reach out to new partners if we have the opportunity to undertake a further LNOB series this year.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

The 17<\/strong><\/a><\/span><\/span>th<\/strong><\/span> October<\/strong><\/span> remains an important occasion for deepening our partnerships.\u00a0 We intend to strengthen these partnerships working towards the 25<\/span>th<\/span> anniversary this year especially with the department for Social Protection and Committee.\u00a0 We really appreciated the support of Minister of State Joe O\u2019 Brien and the department the past two years especially.\u00a0 We look forward to working with the newly elected ministers when the new government is in place.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

The 17th October<\/span><\/a><\/strong> remains a central moment in our calendar year for renewing our commitment to eradicating poverty and listening to, and learning from, those with direct lived experience.\u00a0 We have seen poverty slip off the agenda socially and politically.\u00a0 We will continue to promote this day with the core message of the rights we all share and that the existence of poverty is an affront to these rights.\u00a0 Empowering those who experience it to take ownership of their own stories and is a key step to its eradication.\u00a0 The 17th October remains often an initial stepping stone for many in speaking out.\u00a0 We were pleased in 2024 to have new groups take part in the commemoration.\u00a0 In 2025 we will continue to promote the work of those commemorating 17th October in events through out Ireland.\u00a0 We will work together on how to invigorate our partnerships with these groups and commemorate 17th October in a collective, interconnected way.\u00a0 Thank you as always to the 17th October committee members, including community activists, who work so well together as a team in organising the event at the poverty stone.\u00a0 In 2025, as we work towards the 25th anniversary we will take time to take stock of what has been most important about this day in Ireland to those who have played a role.<\/p>

Our contributions at international advocacy events have also been dependent on our partnerships with institutions, such the UN.\u00a0 In February Community Activists Jimmy and Lorraine <\/strong><\/a><\/span><\/span>presented at a UN Webinar<\/strong><\/span> on \u201cEliminating Inequity and Systemic Exclusion: A Rights based approach to Social and Economic Policy Justice\u201d.\u00a0 This was a side event to the 62<\/span>nd<\/span> Commission on Social Development, organized by Maryann Broxton, ATD Fourth World\u2019s Representative at the United Nations.\u00a0 One result of this event was Lorraine contributing to an annual UNANIMA publication<\/a><\/strong><\/span> on homelessness this past December.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

In October, as a member of the International 17<\/span>th<\/span> October Committee Community Activist Andrew travelled to Dakar, Senegal. \u00a0The October 17<\/span>th<\/span> Committee and ATD Fourth World organised an international roundtable \u201cI WAS BORN \u2014 I EXIST \u2014 ADD ME TO THE LIST\u201d<\/a>.\u00a0 <\/strong><\/span>This event highlighted the consequences for many who do not have access to legal identity documents.\u00a0<\/span>

The Hidden Dimensions of Poverty event at the World Bank\/ IMF<\/a><\/strong><\/span> was a highlight of 2024 and showcased the importance of our International Advocacy and Research. \u00a0National Coordinator Dann coordinated the Hidden Dimensions of poverty research in the UK, and he attended this conference alongside ATD UK Activist Thomas and others with a leading role in the research internationally. \u00a0This conference \u201cAddressing the Hidden Dimensions of Poverty in Knowledge and Policies\u201d <\/span>brought together academics, practitioners, and people who have direct experience of poverty as co-researchers to better understand the The Hidden Dimensions of Poverty International Research, including the key dimensions of poverty uncovered and the participatory methodology. Participants <\/span>also <\/span>discussed the\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Inclusive and Deliberative Elaboration and Evaluation of Policies (IDEEP)<\/span><\/span><\/a>\u00a0tool.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0 <\/span>

2024 saw the team welcome 11 new volunteers on diverse internships, including many students.\u00a0 This is an essential aspect of our work and such a support to our overall projects.\u00a0\u00a0 We are convinced many of our volunteers discover and learn a great deal about our work especially working alongside our community activists and friends. Whether they stay for a short or long term, we aim to project on to our volunteer our core values of inclusion, respect and participation.\u00a0 Read here<\/strong><\/span><\/a> a reflective piece on the learnings of one of our student volunteers Niall.\u00a0 We were also pleased to welcome one of these young volunteers to join our team for a greater length of time beginning in January. During 2025 we aim to continue developing and diversifying this action, highlighting the International Volunteer Corps as an avenue of engagement for new people.<\/span><\/p>

Continuing to deepen links with academic partners through our Poverty Aware Practice<\/a> <\/strong>module has led to us beginning to take on students as part of their official social work placement. In line with our Strategic goal on funding, efforts were made by the team in numerous funding applications and some important funding was secured from new funders such as Critical Social Policy.\u00a0 This was achieved alongside funding from our long-term funding partners including IHREC and Concern.\u00a0 Funding activities took place including our annual Christmas singing and Appeals.<\/a><\/strong><\/span>\u00a0 These actions also support us in our parallel goal of raising the profile and public awareness of ATD Ireland.\u00a0 A new working group has now been created to take this important challenge forward into 2025.\u00a0 The aim will be to seek long- term sustainable funding sources, which will enable us to take a more programmatic and not only project focused approach to our work. In 2024, ATD Ireland with our very supportive board of directors<\/strong><\/a><\/span>, published our Strategic goals 2023-27<\/strong><\/span>.\u00a0 We updated and improved multiple policies and procedures – taking seriously the management and compliance of the organisation. Il sera important de faire continuellement le point avec nos militants communautaires en 2025 sur les r\u00e9alisations et les d\u00e9fis de notre repr\u00e9sentation publique continue.\u00a0 ATD Irlande s’engage \u00e0 r\u00e9aliser et \u00e0 planifier son travail public en partenariat avec les militants communautaires.\u00a0 Ces derniers ont toujours la libert\u00e9 de prendre part \u00e0 ce travail ou de s’en retirer comme ils l’entendent, et l’\u00e9quipe les encouragera \u00e0 prendre ces d\u00e9cisions en toute connaissance de cause, sans porter de jugement.\u00a0 La cr\u00e9ation d’une dynamique de groupe, bas\u00e9e sur la confiance et le soutien des pairs, est tr\u00e8s importante. Encourager l’espoir et la positivit\u00e9 est essentiel, mais reconna\u00eetre l’\u00e9puisement et la d\u00e9motivation face \u00e0 l’inaction politique est vital. Nous avons poursuivi nos journ\u00e9es portes ouvertes du mardi en 2024.\u00a0 Il s’agit d’un espace ouvert important o\u00f9 nos membres peuvent passer et se rencontrer.\u00a0 C’est toujours un moment o\u00f9 l’\u00e9quipe est attentive et accueillante. C’est un espace important pour nos b\u00e9n\u00e9voles, stagiaires et amis qui peuvent se retrouver dans un environnement sans jugement. De nombreuses id\u00e9es de projets sont discut\u00e9es et d\u00e9velopp\u00e9es ensemble pendant cette p\u00e9riode. Les ateliers cr\u00e9atifs, la cuisine, le chant sont au c\u0153ur de l’ambiance chaleureuse et inclusive que nous cherchons \u00e0 cr\u00e9er. L’\u00e9v\u00e9nement Hidden Dimensions of Poverty (Dimensions cach\u00e9es de la pauvret\u00e9) \u00e0 la Banque mondiale\/FMI<\/strong><\/span><\/a> a \u00e9t\u00e9 un moment fort de 2024 et a mis en \u00e9vidence l’importance de notre plaidoyer et de notre recherche \u00e0 l’\u00e9chelle internationale.\u00a0 Le coordinateur national Dann a coordonn\u00e9 la recherche sur les dimensions cach\u00e9es de la pauvret\u00e9 au Royaume-Uni et a particip\u00e9 \u00e0 cette conf\u00e9rence aux c\u00f4t\u00e9s de Thomas, militant d’ATD UK, et d’autres personnes jouant un r\u00f4le de premier plan dans la recherche au niveau international.\u00a0 Cette conf\u00e9rence intitul\u00e9e \u00ab Aborder les dimensions cach\u00e9es de la pauvret\u00e9 dans les connaissances et les politiques \u00bb a rassembl\u00e9 des universitaires, des praticiens et des personnes ayant une exp\u00e9rience directe de la pauvret\u00e9 en tant que Co-chercheurs afin de mieux comprendre la recherche internationale sur les dimensions cach\u00e9es de la pauvret\u00e9, y compris les dimensions cl\u00e9s de la pauvret\u00e9 mises au jour et la m\u00e9thodologie participative. 2024 a vu l’\u00e9quipe accueillir 11 nouveaux b\u00e9n\u00e9voles pour des stages divers, dont de nombreux \u00e9tudiants.\u00a0 Il s’agit d’un aspect essentiel de notre travail et d’un tel soutien \u00e0 nos projets globaux.\u00a0\u00a0 Nous sommes convaincus que beaucoup de nos volontaires d\u00e9couvrent et apprennent beaucoup sur notre travail, notamment en travaillant aux c\u00f4t\u00e9s de nos militants et amis de la communaut\u00e9. Conform\u00e9ment \u00e0 notre objectif strat\u00e9gique en mati\u00e8re de financement, l’\u00e9quipe s’est efforc\u00e9e de pr\u00e9senter de nombreuses demandes de financement et a obtenu un financement important de la part de nouveaux bailleurs de fonds tels que Critical Social Policy.\u00a0 Ces r\u00e9sultats ont \u00e9t\u00e9 obtenus parall\u00e8lement au financement de nos partenaires financiers de longue date, notamment l’IHREC et Concern.\u00a0 Des activit\u00e9s de financement ont eu lieu, notamment nos chants et appels<\/a><\/span><\/strong> de No\u00ebl annuels.\u00a0 Ces actions nous soutiennent \u00e9galement dans notre objectif parall\u00e8le d’am\u00e9liorer le profil et la sensibilisation du public \u00e0 ATD Irlande.\u00a0 Un nouveau groupe de travail a \u00e9t\u00e9 cr\u00e9\u00e9 pour relever ce d\u00e9fi important jusqu’en 2025.\u00a0 L’objectif sera de rechercher des sources de financement durables \u00e0 long terme, qui nous permettront d’adopter une approche plus programmatique et pas seulement ax\u00e9e sur les projets. En 2024, ATD Irlande, avec son conseil d’administration<\/a><\/strong><\/span> tr\u00e8s favorable, a publi\u00e9 ses objectifs strat\u00e9giques 2023-27<\/a><\/strong><\/span>.\u00a0 Nous avons mis \u00e0 jour et am\u00e9lior\u00e9 de nombreuses politiques et proc\u00e9dures – en prenant au s\u00e9rieux la gestion et la conformit\u00e9 de l’organisation. Nos comptes audit\u00e9s, qui ont \u00e9t\u00e9 approuv\u00e9s par nos membres lors de notre AGA, sont disponibles sur notre site web.
